There are a number of laws to protect you as a person with a disability. There are laws to make sure that you are treated fairly as an equal member of your community. Other laws set up government programs to make sure you have the supports you need to live with dignity and independence. The Americans with Disabilities Act ("ADA"), the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA), Medicaid and Supplemental Security Income are all laws or programs to help individuals with disabilities in Delaware and across the country.
However, sometimes people with disabilities are denied their rights under the law. This might mean that you are discriminated against, or were treated differently because of your disability. To protect yourself become your own advocate, so you can make sure your rights are respected and you are treated equally.
